Comino hike, with bones and bungalow tents

Our company kick off was a great success. Lots of beer, lots of fun and a lack of sleep. The 3 key ingredients to a decent party weekend.

Friday challenges

On Friday we had to do a bunch of challenges that involved running/driving around the island, making pics of things like cows and (live) bunnies, two thing that are very rare here in Malta.

In the evening hours we had a bbq and me and Matt played some poker with a few colleagues after that. I decided to go out, which seemed like a good idea at that point. Since the first beer went down around 10 in the morning, you can imagine what kind of state I was in….I felt fine anyway and was ready to go to PV, mainly because I had to meet up with some people there.

To make a long story short, I crashed at a friend’s house at around 7 or 8 in the morning and we had to be at the company for the Saturday boat party at 9am. Off course this was impossible to do after like 20 hours of drinking and basically no sleep. I have a very vague memory of Matt calling me to get me up but that didn’t really work.

Saturday Comino

When I woke up around 10-ish, me and my friend were stressing out a little about how to get to Comino, since that was where the boat party went to. After a couple of phone calls, it turned out that there were more people who didn’t make it, so we met up with another friend and the plan was to meet up with the rest of the office on Comino. After a F1-like taxi drive to Cirkewwa, waiting almost an hour for a boat who should be leaving ‘in 10 minutes’, we arrived at the small island.

Our hike began, we saw the boat, but had to walk over a small hill to get close. Once we were on top of the hill, the boat turns and drives away……So far for meeting up with the rest.

We couldn’t bother less and decided to have our own office party on Comino, with hookers and……oh no, wait, that’s something else. Anyway, we started a hike to explore the island and came across some interesting stuff. First of all, the island is a snail graveyard. You find them everywhere.

We also found some bones, probably from the ancestors who set foot on Comino first….or maybe it was just a rabbit.

Comino BonesAncestors or animal??

We found  a deserted hotel which was re-opening in 2 weeks and there was a small beach as well. Craving for a swim, we checked it out, only to found out it was jellyfish heaven over there, so no swimming. Moving on with the hike then after some rest…

JellyfishVERY dangerous stingy thing

Suddenly, after a huge journey of around 2 hours (they say the island is small, well f… that!) one of my friends suddenly stops and says; Listen…drums…..

No idea what to expect (remember, there’s only 1 person living on Comino and all the tourists are laying side by side on the concrete beach all the way on the other side of the island…..) we go and check it out.

We cross a treeline and suddenly the place is filled with bungalow tents, people playing music, sunbathing at a sandy beach (yeah, furreal..) and apparently having a reggae party.

Comino Tents Suddenly, tents…

Highly unexpected and still craving for a dive in the sea we drop our towels and check out the water. There are still some jellyfish, but not enough to scare us away. The water turned out to be insanely cold, so it was dive in and get out. After that we had to go since we had to take the last boat back to shore or we’d have to spend the night there.

No idea how to get back the fastest, I asked some girls. Luckily they were on their way back too so we could walk with them. They seemed like fun and I had a pretty standard ‘where you from’ etc talk with one of them, nevertheless she was interesting. Turned out she is a huge party girl (duh) who is in Paceville everyday so I’m pretty sure we’ll meet again. We swapped numbers but I haven’t seen her after that yet, maybe she’s running away every time she sees me ;)
