Malta, the Poker Haven

So people might wonder how come there are so many Gaming companies and Poker players on this beautiful island. Well as many things do in life, it comes down to money my little grasshopper. Gaming companies pay lower taxes than they would elsewhere, coupled with generally low wages makes for heavier wallets for the top brass. The gaming companies do tend to import a lot of talent from abroad but it’s generally quite easy to move to Malta with the weather and low costs making it attractive to people from Nordic countries. The lifestyle here is attractive for poker players, with things being fairly chill and easy going – island life attracts lazy people – and poker players are not shy to admit that they are notoriously lazy (in everything except poker).  Seems taxes might be better here for poker players, can’t imagine why! Anyways so name a few companies that I know happen to have offices here; Pokerstars (also known as Rational Group), Betfair, Unibet, Betsson, Bet-at-Home, NordicBet and the list goes on and onnnnn. Why should you care? Don’t know, but I can write whatever the hell I want so bah ga di koloko bawaaaaqaaaa!

Management from these companies tend to all know each other for the most part, they party, drink and have special friendship hugs. Some cool people here and there, mostly crazy but fun people. Anyways so back to Malta – in summer you tend to see most of this type at Bedouin, along with all the gold-diggers in their skin-tight dresses (not complaining here) in tow. The party tends to continue later on at Club 22 which, in my honest opinion, is the most overpriced and boring place on the island. If I wanted to stand around and stare at everyone else standing around and staring … I’d buy myself a bottle of Grey Goose and get some mirrors – save myself some money.

On the other hand you tend to see the poker players, for the most part, partying it up in Paceville with the common folk. They usually meet up at some Irish Pub to blast off the festivities. These are my kinda people, not that I can play poker, but I have serious respect for their crazy and completely irresponsible lifestyles. Play poker all day and party all night? That’s my dream life right there baby! To get back down to earth people, disclaimer, these guys have it tough a lot – not shitting you – I think playing poker as a living might be the most stressful ‘job’ ever. The rewards can be high, but mannnn can shit go wrong. I’ve seen it happen. So for all you little kids out there considering it… well… what was I talking about? I believe Paceville calls – Cya!
